WOPA is delighted to announced that Mick Harford, Dean Blackwell, Sim Johnston and Brendan Farrell are the latest list of players to sign up
Mick Harford
Much travelled target man, commanding over £2million in transfer fees, who came to prominence during a six year spell at Luton Town where he reached two Wembley finals and won two England caps. Joined Wimbledon in 1994 and spent five years as a player before moving onto the Dons coaching side. Later managed Rotherham United and was appointed assistant manager at Colchester United in August 2006. Rumoured to be the only WFC player in recent times not to have undergone a 'Crazy Gang' initiation, because the rest of the squad (including Vinnie Jones) were afraid of him !
League Appearances 37 (23)
Dean Blackwell
Home grown and often underrated centre-back who established a fine defensive partnership alongside Chris Perry in the Dons back four. Spent 14 top-flight years with Wimbledon, gaining 6 England U21 caps, before a series of niggly injuries saw him released in 2002 after which he joined Brighton. Spent two years with the Seagulls before a cruciate knee ligament injury finally ended his professional career in September 2004 at the age of 34.
League Appearances: 205 (1986-2002)
Sim Johnston
Memorable for 'that goal' against Hartley Wintney (ironically in his last appearance) - a magnificent 35-yarder that will live long in the memory of those fortunate to have witnessed it. Sim heard about the AFCW player trials via Kiss FM and came through them successfully to feature in the first few months of the Dons CCL season. Left in Christmas to join Kent Leaguers Sevenoaks Town and is currently the reserve team captain of Tonbridge Angels. A popular player and always welcome back at Kingsmeadow.
League Appearances: 11 (2002)
Brendan Farrell
Joined AFC Wimbledon via the Wimbledon Common trials and featured as a second half substitute in four of the inaugural pre-season friendlies against Dulwich Hamlet, Bromley, Borehamwood and Walton & Hersham. Assisted in the early days of the AFCW Matchday Academy and currently runs his own mortgage broking company which has sponsored both programmes and home games at Kingsmeadow.
