Wimbledon Masters Are Back!!!!!!
July 16th, Wembley Arena
The Dons are back!
For the first time in five years, former yellow-and-blue heroes will be
running on to the pitch at Wembley Arena in a bid to win the London
Masters.
The tournament, sponsored by Sky TV, pits former professional players
from four London clubs against each other in a one-day showdown. And on
Sunday, 16 July, Wimbledon will line up against Arsenal, Spurs and
Watford.
The Wimbledon team is developing nicely, and an announcement with the
full squad will follow shortly. If you would like to play and
haven't yet been contacted, please don't hesitate to contact WOPA, and we
will put your name forward.
The format of the competition makes for fast and furious play, not to
mention high drama and low comedy. Each team plays every other team
once, with games lasting eight minutes each way. If the scores are level
after full time, there’s a penalty shoot-out to decide the winners.
The top two teams on points then fight out the final, the winners being
crowned London champions, and going forward to the national final in
September.
Not only does the London Masters give Wimbledon supporters the chance to
see some old favourites in action – it’s also a great day out for both
players and supporters. Wimbledon supporters will be sitting together,
and will have the opportunity to watch all seven matches. And they’ll
even be able to wave at the TV cameras, since Sky will be televising the
event live. It is a great opportunity to show the world that the spirit
of Wimbledon FC lives on at AFC Wimbledon, with players and supporters
united once again in the name of Wimbledon.
Wimbledon’s return to the Masters fold is the culmination of a lot of
hard work by Glenn “Trigger” Mulcaire who is helping WOPA, Ivor Heller
of AFC Wimbledon and Si Wheeler of WISA (WOPA's organisers). It marks a
further important step in establishing to the football world that AFC
Wimbledon ARE the real Dons.
If you are unable to play but would still like to attend, tickets for
the day are £18 for adults and £12 for under-16s or £50 per family (2
adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children) and are available via
the AFC Wimbledon credit card hotline (020 8546 9582, open 11am-1pm
weekdays) or by visiting the office between 10am and 4pm Monday-Friday.
Remember, buying your tickets through the office means that AFC
Wimbledon benefits directly from a percentage of the money you pay.
