Minutes of Extraordinary General Meeting, Thursday, 23rd August,
2001
Wimbledon Community Centre, St. George's Road, Wimbledon
1. Apologies for absence
Apologies were received from Charlie Bell, Tom Brooks, Steve Elson,
Marc Jones and Lee Willett
2. Emergency Motion
The meeting had been called principally to agree the following amendment
to the constitution:
"This meeting hereby authorises the WISA General Committee
to commit to expenditure on such single items as it deems necessary
in excess of £500 in pursuit of the current campaign both:
(a) against WFC's stated intention to move the Club to Milton Keynes;
and
(b) to find a suitable site for WFC in or near to Merton.
This authorisation shall last until the next WISA general meeting."
This change was felt necessary because the current spending limit
restricts the committee's ability to take advantage of possible
campaigning opportunities. For example, the forthcoming game at
Watford will be televised and the cost of advertising on perimeter
hoardings had been investigated.
The resolution was agreed (89 in favour, 1 against, no abstentions),
subject to the following proviso:
"Each single item of expenditure in excess of £500 will
be accounted for and reported to members at the next general meeting."
3. Update
Last week, the Football League (FL) unanimously rejected the Club's
proposed move to MK. The Club have said very little but are believed
to have been briefing newspapers that they are considering legal
moves against the FL so the battle is not over. People have been
told there will be a statement in the programme next Saturday.
New alternative matchday programme - Yellow & Blue
A 32 page, full colour programme is in production for every game
at Selhurst from the Norwich match onwards, price £1.50. Volunteers
need to sell around the ground.
4. Walk for Wimbledon
Lou confirmed the arrangements and timings for Saturday.
5. Norwich Match
Balloons - yellow and blue balloons will be organised: team colours
and celebrate launch of the new programme
Sit-in - the situation between WISA and the Club has not changed
- they have not withdrawn the suggestion of MK. Therefore, the announcement
"we will do this every week" still stands - we are staying
behind after the game. Suggested duration of sit-in: 25 minutes,
representing WFC's 25th year in the league.
6. Boycott of Club merchandise
Agreed that the boycott should be maintained.
7. Dealings with Koppel
The meeting agreed WISA should publicly call for CK's resignation/dismissal.
The question was raised as to whether we should meet him, if requested.
The possibility of using an independent minute taker was discussed
but the general view was WISA should not meet with CK.
8. Supporters Direct & creating a supporters trust
Supporters Direct have an annual conference on 6th September at
Birkbeck College. Anyone interested in attending should talk to
Kris or Tim Hillyer. In the meantime, a small group of people will
investigate the benefits and mechanics of setting up a supporters
trust and report back at a future meeting.
9.Pub
The meeting having concluded, many retired gratefully to the Wibbas
Down (Wetherspoons)!
