Dons Trust Elections - Questionnaire 2010

(main questionnaire index)

Q01 . Do you see The Fans Stadium, Kingsmeadow, as a temporary or permanent home for AFC Wimbledon?

David Hall My preference is to see us re-establish a permanent base in Wimbledon but we have to weigh up the opportunities now being presented in Merton (see answer to 15 below) with a potential future at Kingsmeadow.
I think the next two or three years will be quite critical in deciding which way forward we go and a clear assessment of the finances of each option, the impact on the fans and the structure of the club will need to be taken into account. Ultimately we have to be able to present a clear position to the DT membership with the Board's views and recommendations.

Mark Davis A couple of years ago, I would have said that it's our long-term temporary abode, recognising an eventual aim to return to Wimbledon (perhaps a decade or two from now). However, our recent fortunes on the pitch have brought the issue of outgrowing KM into much sharper focus. We need to look actively at the options and develop a strategy for realising the preferred option (see Q15 below). I think, in the meantime, we can continue (but no faster than necessary) to develop KM into a stadium that can accommodate League football. However, I suspect (with no inside knowledge on the subject) that the League's requirements will become ever more stringent, and it may be that the work required to maintain KM as a ground eligible in the long term for League football will become more demanding than we currently anticipate. So, even if we were to decide as a Trust to ditch the aim of returning to Wimbledon, KM might not work out long-term anyway.

Nicole Hammond Temporary. We should aim to get back to Wimbledon.

Kate Terriere Temporary. However, if no viable alternative sites could be found then I would not be against staying at Kingsmeadow.

Kris Stewart I think Kingsmeadow is our home, in the same way as the flat I rent is my home. I hope we find our dream home, the one we will never move from, soon. But for now, we have a home.

Lee Willett Very definitely temporary only

Stephen Cooles I would see it as a temporary home.

Tom Adam Temporary. The next obvious step in our development is a new Stadium. Without one we can’t continue to grow and develop and I believe that fans want us to do that, although not at the cost of losing control of the Club. Location of such a new Stadium should be consistent with existing Dons Trust Aims.

Simon Bath No, but it is applicable for current requirements.

David Growns Temporary - bearing in mind that we may still be here for some time. That means treating it as a permanent home in our decision-making until it isn't.

Damian Woodward Temporary

Christopher Gibbs If Kingston offers a brilliant redevelopment solution that was better than anything available elsewhere in Merton or Kingston at that time then it's our 'next' home. If not, no. Of course, once that theoretical development had taken place that does not mean it is a permanent home of Wimbledon any more than Highbury was the permanent home of Arsenal, The Dell was the permanent home of Southampton, Highfield Rd of Coventry, Burnden Park of Bolton Wanderers, Maine Rd of Manchester City, Victoria Ground of Stoke City...
