A step back in time
WISA presents an exclusive slide show of photographs taken at
two Wimbledon FC home games in the early 1960s.
The pictures were taken at Plough Lane during games against
St. Albans City in the Isthmian League (19th November 1960) and
a few weeks later against Tooting & Mitcham in the Surrey
Senior Cup (7th January 1961).
They were taken by Gerry Cranham, then a freelance general sports
photographer. For many years now he has been one of the country's
leading race horse photographers. He gave these photos to WISA
and AFC Wimbledon as a gift after one of his other pictures was
included in our recent publication “Our
aim was success”. We would like to thank Gerry for his
great generosity.
The 56 photos on display here have never been seen in public
before. So, step back in time, to an era when footballers were
still allowed to play in mud, small boys waved rattles in the
crowd, and Eddie Reynolds was the club’s leading goal scorer.
