The AFC Board Poll

Should one (or all) of the board of AFC Wimbledon be democratically elected is the question this week. The current AFC Wimbledon board (all praise and worship them) was appointed by the Dons Trust board in the early stages of the process to get AFC up and running, but now that we are getting on with the business of running our own club, we can turn our minds to how it should be run.

One of the primary aims of WISA is to 'campaign for a supporter to be elected to the board of WFC' - and whilst the constitutional angle of the WFC phrase still needs to be ironed out, some people still support the idea of having a representative of the fans elected to the board of our club. Others however, wonder if the argument is still valid, and bearing in mind that the Dons Trust board are democratically elected, don't see the point.

This issue has been discussed at a meeting between WISA and the Dons Trust, with the Dons Trust open to the idea, but no action has been taken to allow the existing board find their feet. Of course, it's not just a WISA issue, as the Dons Trust members themselves may wish to have an independent voice to represent their views. This is about fans running their own club - and not politics!

At a time when we are discussing whether AFC should pay salaries to those who work for the club, and when major decisions affecting the future of the club are being made, perhaps the owners of the club should have a direct choice in who makes those decisions on the AFC board. Or maybe not.
