On Thursday, 27th November, a short ceremony will be held to formally name the buildings at Plough Lane after outstanding individuals in Wimbledon FC’s history during the many years when we played there.
The Mayor of Merton will be present, and we have also invited those people after whom the buildings are named, or their representatives. The ceremony will commence at 2 p.m., after which there will be light refreshments, with the whole event expected to finish around 3.30 p.m.
There are invitations for ten Dons fans to attend, with names to be drawn at random next weekend. You don’t have to be a WISA member.
To enter in the draw, simply e-mail your name, postal address and telephone number to secretary@wisa.org.uk by 6 p.m. next Sunday, 16th November, labelling your e-mail “Plough Lane draw”. We will contact those who are successful by e-mail, and ensure an invitation is sent by post.
The ceremony will of course prompt mixed feelings for all those for whom Plough Lane was a second home, and for all of us who hoped some day to be playing there again.
Nevertheless, we hope that this occasion will be a way of honouring every single person who participated in our history there, and that the names will form a permanent reminder of the Dons’ colourful tenure of those hallowed acres.
The plans for a time capsule and commemorative artwork also continue to take shape, and we hope to have more news for you over the coming months.
