Ray Goddard (1949-2007)
It is with deep regret that we have to announce that former Wimbledon FC goalkeeper Ray Goddard sadly died this morning aged 58 years.
Ray was signed from Millwall in 1978 for the princely sum of £4,500 and played for the club until 1981 in the Football League, three of those seasons in the 4th Division.
Ray made 143 first team appearances in all competitions and even scored for the club; a penalty against Bury on 2nd May 1981 in his last game for Wimbledon.
Ray will also be remembered for scoring a penalty in a shootout against his former club Leyton Orient in the League Cup.
Ray had visited Kingsmeadow to see AFC Wimbledon play, and was welcomed by all, many of whom had seen him play at Plough Lane.
Ray has been living in Spain for a number of years now which is where his funeral will be held on Friday in Calahonda.
Our condolences go to his family and friends on such a sad day.
