WISA Responds to Unsolicited Approach to AFC Wimbledon

The Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association (WISA) notes the statement issued on behalf of the boards of the Dons Trust and AFC Wimbledon plc.

WISA is relieved that both boards have ‘little appetite to recommend’ this unsolicited approach by an unnamed businessman.

WISA believes that it is in the best interest of Wimbledon supporters and the community of Wimbledon that the Dons Trust remains the sovereign body of AFC Wimbledon. For that reason, WISA is opposed to any change of ownership, regardless of whether it is to an individual, consortium or any other private or public entity.

WISA will actively campaign against any formal proposal by this unnamed businessman and will encourage AFC Wimbledon, the Dons Trust and its membership to reject any offer, regardless of any speculative promises associated with an attempted takeover.

WISA welcomes the decision of the boards of the Dons Trust and AFC Wimbledon to constitute a long-term development strategy and will offer any assistance that the boards deem to be appropriate. WISA will continue to play an active role with AFC Wimbledon, the Dons Trust, Merton Council and other relevant parties in working towards finding a feasible ground solution in Wimbledon.

WISA is disappointed that this businessman, through setting a deadline of the 31 August 2006 for any forthcoming formal offer to be accepted, could pose a detrimental distraction to the start of AFC Wimbledon’s 2006-2007 Ryman Premier Division Season.

WISA would like to thank AFC Wimbledon, the Dons Trust, the army of enthusiastic volunteers and supporters for their hard work in ensuring the success of a fans owned club representing the community of Wimbledon.
